Travelling to Hamilton Island

Hamilton Island is easily accessible with direct flights from Sydney (two hours), Melbourne (three hours), Brisbane and Cairns (one hour) with easy connecting flights from all other capital cities. Both Virgin and Jetstar airlines fly directly in to Hamilton Island Airport. Qantas also fly directly to Hamilton Island, from Cairns only.

Coming by road is easy too: there are frequent ferries throughout the day, from Shute Harbour (just a 15 minute drive from Airlie Beach). We are 150kms north of Mackay and approximately 350kms south of Townsville.

there are a multitude of activities to participate in

Golf

Hamilton Island Golf Club is a short, five-minute ferry ride away on neighbouring Dent Island. The world-class par 71, 18-hole championship course makes the most of the island’s valleys and ridges, with a challenging layout and 360 degree views of Hamilton Island and the Whitsundays. To celebrate that eagle or hole-in-one round, relax with a leisurely meal in the clubhouse restaurant and bar.

Sailing and boating

Sailing is the best way to explore the Whitsunday’s 74 tranquil islands and beautiful beaches. With a choice of bareboat yachting, skippered catamaran cruising and fully crewed motor yacht charters, there’s a tailor-made boating experience to suit every sailor. Tours

Fun day trips and exciting overnight excursions depart frequently from Hamilton Island. Fly over the amazing natural wonder of the Great Barrier Reef on a scenic flight and see Heart Reef, Hill Inlet. Spend the day on the world famous pure white silica sands of Whitehaven Beach.

Off the water; there are plenty of games to play on a white sandy beach.

Adventures

There are many adrenalin pumping adventure activities on Hamilton Island: Jet-boating, Go-kart racing, Quad bike excursions. For a more leisurely pace, put on your hiking shoes for a bushwalk to Passage Peak, take a sea-kayak tour or do some gentle fishing or exploring in a dinghy.

Fitness

No need to lose your fitness on holiday! The Sports Club on Hamilton Island has a fully equipped gym, complete with weights and cardio gear. There are also several courts, if you fancy a game of tennis or squash. The sea-kayaking tours are also a great way to keep fit. Throughout the year, there are a growing number of events on Hamilton Island: Sailing regattas, running or swimming races and a triathlon.

Nature

Discover the island’s diverse flora and fauna along several different trail walks, including -for the more adventurous -a hill walk to Passage Peak. From here you will have sweeping views of the island and surrounding Coral Sea. Hamilton island really is a photographer’s paradise!

There are many restaurants to choose from on Hamilton Island. From elegant fine-dining at the Yacht Club or Beach Club’s romantic setting to qualia’s Pebble Beach restaurant.
For a more relaxed setting; try wood-fired pizzas from Manta Ray cafe or the Steak-house: there are restaurants to suit every taste!

Shopping

Hamilton Island also has all the conveniences of a small town: Post Office, Bank, Pharmacy, General Store and Bottle Shop and a newsagency, all situated in the Marina Village. There are also various boutiques in the Resort area, souvenir and gift stores.
